Choosing the right Plastic Surgeon is a very personal decision and one that needs careful research and consideration. It is essential that your Surgeon is fully trained, qualified and registered as a Plastic Surgeon, and you feel comfortable during your consultation, Surgery and post care period.

Many patients are unaware that in Australia any Doctor may perform surgery without any surgical training or specialist recognition as a Surgeon. This could mean that your surgery may be performed by a Doctor not trained as a Plastic Surgeon.

In Australia, Surgeons undertake intensive training to perform invasive surgical procedures and study specialist surgery for a minimum of five years culminating in at least twelve years of total Medical and Surgical education. Surgeons are Fellows of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) or equivalent, the standard qualification required in Australia to perform surgery in private and public hospitals. A FRACS (Plas) Member has studied and trained in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery for a minimum of five years after Medical School.

At the time of making your appointment it is important to ask if the Doctor is a member of FRACS, the only legally recognised and accredited organisation.

Dr Hussain is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons and Member of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons, International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the Australian Medical Association.

During the consultation a review of your medical history (including past and present medications ) will be made, before and after photos shown, anaesthesia discussed and a timeline given for your returning to work and social activities.

An estimate for your procedure will sent to you soon afterwards.

Once you have decided to proceed to with treatment, our team will support you through your entire Cosmetic Surgery journey, endeavouring to alleviate any anxiety and providing ongoing support and information regarding your surgery and post operative care.

Typically for Cosmetic Procedures, you will require two consultations.

After Care

After surgery it is imperative that you follow your Surgeon’s instructions to avoid any complications and ensure the best possible results from your procedure.

Your specific instructions will vary depending on the surgery performed, however there are some general post-operative care instructions to keep in mind.

If possible, it is always advisable to have someone with you to help you at all times. Additionally it is not advisable to drive a vehicle or operate machinery for 24 hours post surgery or whilst taking medications.

After Facial surgery you will be required to keep your head elevated, apply ice packs and avoid any strenuous activites such as lifting. You may also be required to wear a supportive garment for 3 weeks.

Diet

Always ensure you drink plenty of fluids and maintain a high fibre diet if taking medication containing codeine (Panadeine/Panadeine Forte) as it may cause constipation. Also, do not consume alcohol in the immediate post operative period or while taking medication.
