How does K-Laser treatment work?
K-Laser is an advanced laser technology used for the removal of benign skin lesions including moles, skin tags, and areas of pigmentation. The laser precisely targets and removes the lesion with minimal damage to the surrounding skin, resulting in fast healing and little to no scarring.
The treatment is quick enough to be completed in a lunch break, and most patients find discomfort to be minimal. Local anaesthetic is available if required.
A referral letter from your GP or skin cancer specialist is required before treatment, confirming that your moles or lesions are benign and suitable for K-Laser removal. The referral must be no older than 12 months. If your Dermal Clinician identifies a lesion of concern during your appointment, they may refer you for further assessment before proceeding.
K-Laser is suitable for the removal of most benign skin lesions, including:
- Benign moles
- Skin tags
- Pigmentation spots
- Other benign superficial lesions
There may be a brief stinging sensation with each application of the laser to the treated area. This settles quickly, and by the end of the treatment most patients report minimal discomfort. Each mole or lesion typically takes only one to two minutes to treat. Local anaesthetic can be applied if needed.

The treatment process
From your initial referral through to your follow-up review, here is what to expect at each stage of K-Laser treatment at Coastal Plastic Surgery.
Obtain a referral
Visit your GP or skin cancer specialist to have your lesion assessed and confirmed as benign. Ask for a referral letter for K-Laser removal — this must be dated within the last 12 months.
Alternatively, one of our specialist plastic surgeons is able to provide an internal referral for K-Laser treatment.
Initial consultation & treatment
A one-hour combined consultation and treatment session is booked with our Dermal Clinician. Your lesion is assessed, and treatment is performed in the same appointment where appropriate.
Immediate aftercare
A small dressing is applied and must remain dry for 48 hours. Avoid heat-inducing activities, pools, spas, and saunas for the first week. An antibiotic ointment is provided for twice-daily application until healed.
4-week review
Your Dermal Clinician reviews your result at four weeks post-treatment to assess healing and determine whether a second treatment is required.
Second treatment (if required)
If a second treatment session is needed, this is scheduled at eight weeks following the original treatment.
Results
Results are generally visible immediately. Some redness of the skin may be present and typically fades within a few weeks following treatment.

The following fees apply to K-Laser mole and benign lesion removal at Coastal Plastic Surgery. All fees are payable at the time of treatment.
Prices are indicative and subject to change. A formal fee estimate will be provided at your consultation. Medicare rebates do not apply to cosmetic lesion removal.

Heat-inducing activities should be avoided for the first 48 hours, and pools, spas, and saunas for the first week. After 48 hours you will be advised to apply an antibiotic ointment twice daily until the area has healed. Written post-treatment instructions are provided at your appointment.

Most patients with benign moles and lesions that have been assessed and cleared by a GP or skin cancer specialist are suitable for K-Laser treatment. Suitability will be assessed during your consultation with our Dermal Clinician. If any lesion of concern is identified, you will be referred for further assessment before treatment proceeds.
Medicare rebates are not available for cosmetic lesion removal. All fees are payable at the time of treatment. A fee estimate will be provided at your consultation appointment.

Sheree joined our team in 2018, bringing more than 20 years of industry experience, including over 15 years working alongside a specialist plastic surgeon in Canberra. She holds a Bachelor of Health Science (Clinical Dermal Therapies) from Victoria University, a Diploma of Nursing (EEN), and is a full member of the Australian Society of Dermal Clinicians (ADCS). Sheree is registered with AHPRA and is committed to ethical, evidence-based clinical practice.
